I can honestly say that Hyperspaces has totally changed the way I use my Mac. I have not upgraded to Lion, and seeing how limiting Mission Control appears to be makes me think that I won't, at least on my 11" MBA- Labelling Spaces, for example. is just too good to lose. But even that I could live without, except that if Mission Control can't hide desktop items on a space-by-space level, that's a deal-breaker for me.

On my desktop machine, I think things will be different-Spaces seems much less crucial on a much bigger monitor. But no matter what I know I will pine for the features of Hyperspaces that I will lose. I just wish at least we could talk Apple into adding them to MC, if that's the only option! I admire your philosophical view-it's not one I'd be able to adopt under the circumstances!

So thank you, and this isn't the end-I'm sure a lot of people will stay with SL and your fantastic app. And I very much look forward to seeing more of your software in the future!

Helen, the best thing you can do to change things is to file radars using Apple's Bug Reporter. I've posted mine on Open Radar and you're welcome to duplicate their contents into your own reports:

There are a bunch of others that relate to the APIs I was using under Snow Leopard, but I don't expect those will return (and if Apple could make at least some of the changes I've posted above, it would make Mission Control close to what I had implemented with Hyperspaces).

So glad to see that you filed radars onto Apples Bug Reporter. I'll be doing the same TODAY. What are the chances that apple will take note of these posts, and actually incorporate them in the next update to Lion. I can't believe they didn't include these in Lion. MC certainly helps with work flow, but user experience is definitely poorer without your product.

Hi Neville — honest opinion? Little to none.

If enough users made noise about it consistently over the coming months, then maybe in a future point update they might do something about it. But this is something they consider a user feature, so developer bug reports don't really have an impact here.

I feel better for having posted them, though :D

Apologies if this has already been answered.
Is there any hope for creating an application, something other than Hyperspaces, who's purpose is to assign a keystroke to each desktop to spaces? I could almost get around the loss of 2D (even though I feel like I've had an eye removed or a leg amputated), but the real gold in Hyperspaces, to me, is that I was able to set a single-handed keystroke to each space. In this way, I could always get to dreamweaver with shift-opt-e, or fireworks shift-opt-d. Between SL spaces and hyperspaces, I bounce all around my 16 spaces with incredible productivity, so fast it'd make your head spin! Now I'll be like a four-year-old. If there's any way to at least have my keystrokes back, I'd love it.

I'm campaigning for Apple to bring back the good version of spaces, please 'like' my facebook page. So fare we've only got 38 likes, we'll need thousands to even get Apple's attention. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Save-Spaces/216451795053936 Or follow on twitter @SaveSpaces

Hi Adam — have a read of the latest post on my personal site. There is a tip there about setting shortcuts to individual Desktops in Mission Control.

"I can honestly say that if you’re a Hyperspaces user under Snow Leopard, you’re going to love using it."

You may be overstating that a bit. ;-)

I'm slowly accommodating my workflow to the new Lion Mission Control version of Spaces--I miss wraparound and vertical negotiation between them, to be sure, but what I really miss is the ability to make my desktop icons disappear on specific spaces. Do you have (or know of) any workarounds for that?

I hope Hyperspaces stay around as long as Snow Leopard is running somewhere. I'm not moving to Lion anytime soon. Especially running an IT department with bunch of Mac.
Hey, I'm a developer too and I feel you, but great work nonetheless.

HyperSpaces made Spaces usable. I discovered it and was able to use it for a few months before Lion came out. In Lion I'm having HyperSpaces withdrawal as I still care much for Apple's implementation.

Looking forward to your next software project.

It would be nice of CocoaBots to issue an update with an alarming message for Lion so that users who are still on Snow Leopard can be tipped and advised by the automatic update.

I cannot issue an update to the App Store version — Apple will not approve any further updates now that Lion is the current operating system. Hyperspaces should be throwing up a great big warning when you try to open it under Lion — I've been getting emails from users generated by that warning. Did this not happen for you, @David?

Have you looked into attempting to simulate vertical navigation between spaces? Maybe in a separate product? You should do something to make Mission Control somewhat usable.

Hi Brandon — I've explored a large number of other options, and had some limited success, but there's just not enough left in Lion's Mission Control setup to let me do anything that would improve the situation. Sorry!
